Hannah--"get that corn out of my face" -nacho libre
Hola hola!
Another great week in Sunnyside! Lots of lessons, lots of member visits, and we got to have church yesterday!
This week it was Sister Dana's birthday, so we threw a fun party for her for district council! After we finished the meeting, a member called us and said they had a surprise for her! So we stood outside the church and they pulled up with a trailer and a baby cow inside! It was born three hours ago and was learning how to walk! Cutest thing ever!
One night as we were walking home from a member visit, a guy drove past in his truck and asked us if we wanted elotes! Usually I would say, "stranger danger" or "don't accept food from strangers," but I'm missionary and it's my job! So our new friend Reyes made us some elotes, (which is basically corn on the cob with mayo, cheese, and chili powder, OR if you've seen Nacho Libre, it's like the corn on the cob in that movie!), from the back of his pickup truck! We were a little worried when he started painting on the mayo with a paintbrush, and my comp even whispered to me, "we're going to get COVID!" However, we ended up talking about the gospel with him, and now we're going over this week to start teaching him! So moral of the story is, talk to everyone you meet!
We've been teaching this guy named Adrian and he is so GOLDEN! He loves reading the scriptures and before we even taught him the word of wisdom he threw all his cigarettes away! He's been smoke free for a whole month :,) so proud. However, the city I'm serving in is near the border of the Kennewick Washington mission! (Hi hermana platt!) so many of the people we find work in Sunnyside, but live in Grandview, which is 8 miles away, and out of our mission. So this week we had to hand him off to the elders in Grandview so they could set a baptismal date and finish up the lessons! RIP it was so sad. They better take good care of him! Adrian is amazing!!! :) We're hoping that maybe the mission president will let us leave the mission to be there for his baptism.... I'll keep y'all updated!
SO MUCH FUN! I love being a missionary and bringing joy to others! Every night when I see the beautiful sunsets I know that God loves me and I feel the love he has for each one of His children! Our Prophet Russell M Nelson invited us to ponder this question, "How do you hear Him?" & I would like to extend that invitation to you! Be mindful of the promptings you recieve and always strive to help others feel the light of Christ in their lives! There is lots of noise in the world right now, and it can be hard to listen to the still small voice amongst tons of voices! However, I promise that if you really listen, and find opportunities to hear Him, the noise can become not so overwhelming and you can navigate through life :)
Love you all! Continue to stay safe! Watch out for each other, and serve everyone you meet!
